Here is a Laser Pegs Employee Profile on one of our new 3D Generalists, Jorge Ernesto.
1. What was it that attracted to you to Laser Pegs and made you want to join their team?
When I first saw the job advert and specifications, I knew I will be doing lot of different things. That is what motivated me to join the team. I have worked in some creative environments before, but sometimes you get stuck doing the same thing over and over again without any more motivation than a paycheck at the end of the month. This job was different. It had a little bit of everything: motion graphics, animation, concept and prototyping, video games and more. That was a powerful reason for me to want to join!
2. What will you be doing in your role as a 3D Generalist? Is there anything about the job you are most looking forward to?
Some of the things I am most looking forward are 3D graphics and content for an animated movie. Basically, I enjoy everything related to computer graphics.
3. What is your favorite toy or kit made by Laser Pegs?
I feel I kind of fall in love with whichever project I’m working at the moment. Right now, now my favorite Laser Pegs are the Sidekick toys and a lot of you will know why very soon!
4. What was your favorite toy to play with as a child?
A trompo (a whipping top that was very popular in Latin America), without a doubt! Since I was a kid, I was fascinated with the way they were crafted from a single piece of hard wood. Competing with them among friends required the best trompo you could get and a lot of skill. Some kids even named their favorite ones!
5. If you could make any animal or figure into a Laser Pegs model, what would you most like to create?
I think I would try to go for an abstract approach or create geometric shapes, just like the ones we have in the lobby. I think it would be challenging and fun.
6. What is a fun fact about yourself that you think Laser Pegs fans would be interested to know?
Some time ago I used to work as an Air Traffic Controller. I used to love that job until I started helping in the creation of an Airport maquette for training purposes. At that time, I didn’t have any 3D modeling skills but after following a couple of tutorials, I managed to help prototyping the structure. I borrowed a rudimentary PC and some 3D software, then I started growing into everything related to computer graphics. I then quit my job and left to Scotland to study 3D Design!
